The supplement industry took blow after blow from the media in 2013. In addition to run-of-the-mill product recalls that pepper any industry, doctors and credible medical journals regularly questioned the very nature of supplementation. And the mass media wasted no time picking up and spreading these sensational headlines. For example, a study appeared in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute last July linking omega-3 intake with an increased risk of prostate cancer. Three months later, the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia announced it would no longer provide supplements through its pharmacy, making it the first U.S. hospital to institute such a ban. Read more.
