On December 14, 2016 the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) issued a Final Rule that adds a new drug code (7350) for marijuana extracts to the Controlled Substances Act’s Schedule I. According to the Federal Register, the drug code allows DEA “to better track these materials and comply with treaty provisions.” This controversial move has put many in the industry on edge because it demonstrates DEA’s intention to treat cannabidiol (CBD) and other cannabis extracts as a Schedule I drug.
