In the 1930s, a new brain surgery was brought to the United States. The lobotomy. Only a little more dangerous than operating to remove an infected tooth. It was performed on mentally ill patients all over the country. Hailed by the media as a miracle cure. Life Magazine, Time Magazine, The New York Times, they loved it. Lobotomy was felt to be mainstream science. It wins the Nobel Prize. But more than 40,000 surgeries later the brutal truth about lobotomy would come to light.
