We did it! Thanks to your action, a staffer has confirmed that Senator John McCain no longer supports S. 3002, a bill he introduced in February that would have tightened regulatory requirements for dietary supplements.
What happens now? Senator McCain will now collaborate with Senator Orin Hatch (R-Utah) on revised legislation that is expected to target steroids as the illegal drugs that they are. It will provide for transparency and safety within the supplements industry, but without the intensive regulatory intervention proposed in S. 3002. No timeline is set for introduction of a new bill.
Is the fight over? No, we have won an important battle, but the war is not over. We need to continue to make our voices heard. The best way to do that is to grow the grassroots support so that when the next bill is introduced – and there will certainly be one – we will be able to respond quickly and with volume.
