As of Friday evening, November 19th, we’ve heard from reliable independent sources in Washington that the Senate Food Safety bill (S. 510) will apparently NOT include the ten-year jail sentences for food and supplement manufacturers who innocently violate complicated FDA rules (the Leahy amendment). In a reverse of earlier expectations, it now appears that the revised version of S. 510 includes language offered by Sen. Jon Tester to protect small farmers, as well as several other provisions. Grassroots organizations verified that the Senate offices were inundated with your messages, and the Senate leadership listened to you! The bill and amendments are expected to be voted on after the Thanksgiving holiday. Mark this as a win!!!
