ACTION ALERT — Fake Olive Oil in Your Kitchen?

The FDA has reportedly known about mislabeled and fraudulent olive oil and other foods for decades, but has done nothing to address the issue. Now Congress has stepped in. In April of this year, lawmakers directed the FDA through an appropriations bill to test a sampling of imported olive oil and report back on what the agency will do to ensure that consumers are not being deceived. Good News on Lab Testing

The FDA’s attack on independent lab testing appears to have been beaten back. In a recent announcement, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that it will back off of its plans to put new rules in place for laboratory-developed tests (LDTs), rules that represented an attempted regulatory takeover of the industry. The FDA Bans Triclosan

The FDA recently issued a rule banning triclosan and more than a dozen other chemicals commonly used in antibacterial soaps. This will affect a large number of products. “If the product makes antibacterial claims, chances are pretty good that it contains one of these ingredients,” according to an FDA spokeswoman. Companies have a year to comply with the new rule. Read more.
Magnesium Decreases Hyperactivity in ADHD Children

A recent press release from the Orthomolecular Medicine News Service (OMNS) reported that magnesium deficiency is found more frequently in children with ADHD than in children without ADHD. In one study of ADHD children, magnesium deficiency was found in 95% of those examined. Read more.
