I believe that the first vitamins used clinically in “mega” doses were vitamins C and niacin (vitamin B3). Megadoses of vitamin C were used intravenously by Dr. Fredrick R. Klenner of North Carolina to cure polio and other viruses. Megadoses of niacin were used by Dr. Abram Hoffer to successfully treat schizophrenia and many other diseases. Dr. Klenner’s results were ignored, but the dramatic findings of Dr. Hoffer could not be ignored. It was his clinical results with niacin that launched the megavitamin revolution. Read more.
