Congress has taken some steps to make cosmetics safer, but it’s far from enough to protect Americans from the dangerous chemicals in personal care products. Action Alert! The facts speak for themselves. One study found that 45 percent of women who used makeup regularly had skin disease related to cosmetics. An Australian consumer protection agency found that cosmetics were responsible for a third of the complaints it received, causing skin infections, bacterial conjunctivitis, folliculitis, corneal ulcers, and anaphylactic shocks. In fact, cosmetics account for 10 percent of allergic reactions in the US. Read more.

Anti-Aging Supplement Update
The anti-aging guru and founder of the company trying to take away your NMN supplements finally spoke out over the controversy. Action Alert! At the end of last year, we told you about the FDA’s determination that NMN, an important, naturally occurring anti-aging molecule, is not a legal supplement. Why? Because, in the FDA’s view, a drug company (MetroBiotech) started investigating NMN as a drug before it was sold as a supplement. David Sinclair, PhD, who co-founded MetroBiotech and who is an outspoken proponent of NMN’s role in anti-aging, released a statement on the FDA’s action against NMN supplements. Read more.
Durbin’s Supplement Attack for 2022: Defeated?
The Senator has been trying to sneak his supplement attack into an end-of-the-year government funding bill. Will he succeed? Action Alert! ANH-USA has been keeping a close watch on Senator Dick Durbin’s (D-IL) efforts to impose additional regulations on dietary supplements that would threaten our access to important products. Over the course of this year, he has been trying to add his anti-supplement policy to larger pieces of must-pass legislation, because it is evident that it lacks the support to pass on its own merits. So far, with your determined activism, we’ve been able to block his efforts. Read more.
Preserve Local Democracy and Right for Communities to Restrict Pesticide Use
As the new 118th Congress convenes on January 3, 2023, one of the key issues on the agenda led by Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives is preemption of local authority to restrict pesticide use—undercutting the local democratic process to protect public health and safety. In the 117th Congress, H.R. 7266 was introduced to prohibit local governments from adopting pesticide laws that are more protective than federal rules. Read more.

There’s been some confusion about what the FDA’s newest attack against homeopathy means—let us untangle some of these knots. Action Alert! Last week, we reported on the release of the FDA’s final version of a document describing how the agency will treat homeopathic medicines moving forward. The headline of that article was “FDA Declares Homeopathy Illegal.” Consumers have been justifiably outraged by this move by the FDA, but there has been some confusion about what specifically is happening. The FDA just approved a new gene therapy to treat the disease. All you need to pay is…$3.5 million! FDA Supplement Censorship Strikes Again
The FDA’s censorship of free speech about the benefits of supplements has now extended into heart health supplements like vitamin B3 and fish oil. When will this lunacy end? Action Alert! In a slew of warning letters, the FDA has targeted seven companies for claiming that their supplements treat heart disease. Well, not heart disease exactly: what the FDA has issue with is these supplements claiming to be able to lower cholesterol, even though we know they can. Read more.
Taking Away Your Anti-Aging Supplement
MetroBiotech, a company co-founded by David Sinclair, Ph.D., is taking a key anti-aging supplement away from you so they can make a fortune. Action Alert! MetroBiotech is in the process of creating a monopoly on a key anti-aging supplement, β-NMN (beta-nicotinamide mononucleotide, or simply NMN)—one of the best precursors of NAD (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide), which is on the cutting edge of lifespan research. David Sinclair, Ph.D., a Harvard professor and popular author and lecturer, is a co-founder of the company and an outspoken proponent of NMN’s role in longevity, so it stands to reason that he played a large role in the company’s effort to create a monopoly. Statins Better than Supplements?
Sure, if your goal is to increase your risk of grave side effects while taking ineffective medications. Action Alert! Here we go again: another flawed study taking aim at supplements. A new study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology concludes that statins are more effective than fish oil, cinnamon, garlic, turmeric, plant sterols, and red yeast rice at lowering LDL cholesterol over a four-week period. Is this the nail in the coffin of supplements for heart health? NO! These and other similar stories we’ve reported on over the years are a disservice to public health because they add to the mistaken perception that supplements are “useless” when the truth is anything but.
