Lipoprotein(a) belongs to the group of so-called lipoproteins, which are small particles that help transport water-insoluble lipids, cholesterol and cholesterol esters in the blood. In order to enable the transport of these substances in the aqueous phase of the blood, they are bound to proteins. The core of lipoprotein(a) consists of an LDL particle. The main difference from LDL is that lipoprotein(a) is equipped with an additional protein, the “sticky” apolipoprotein(a), which “envelopes” the LDL particle. A test specific for lipoprotein(a) is required to measure its blood level, because a standard LDL test cannot determine how much of LDL is lipoprotein(a). Read more.

Is Bayer Behind a Hit List of Organic & Natural Health Advocates?
That possibility occurred to us when, despite our reticence and self-censorship, the Organic Consumers Association was put on a hit list of vaccine safety advocates known as the “Disinformation Dozen.” We noticed that Voices for Vaccines was one of the pharmaceutical front-groups that’s been circulating the hit list and that it is a project of the Task Force for Global Health, which is funded by vaccine and pharmaceutical companies―including Bayer. The PPI Dementia Link
Last week, ANH-USA submitted a Citizen’s Petition to the FDA requesting a black box warning on proton pump inhibitor (PPI) medications warning of an increased risk for developing dementia. Last year, we submitted a separate petition asking for warning on these acid blocker medications for an increased risk of pneumonia, giving an indication of how dangerous these medications are. Experience has demonstrated that we cannot rely on the FDA to do the right thing, so join us in urging the agency to add this new warning. View here.
FDA Attacks Natural Thyroid
For years the FDA has wanted natural thyroid replacement off the market. Now the agency is moving to eliminate individualized versions of this medicine. Action Alert! The FDA has declared natural desiccated thyroid (NDT) to be a “biologic” and thus ineligible for pharmacy compounding. This is the latest in a decades-long effort by the agency to remove natural thyroid medicines from the market in favor of FDA-approved thyroid drugs that many patients cannot use. Read more.
Cancer Moonshot — Good Idea or Pharma Giveaway?
Why pinning our hopes on developing costly new drug treatments for cancer and other diseases is not effective or sustainable. Last week, on the 60th anniversary of President Kennedy’s proposal to send someone to the moon, President Biden touted his Cancer Moonshot initiative. The initiative was officially re-launched in February of this year, when President Biden called on Congress to fund his effort to reduce cancer mortality by 50 percent in the next 25 years. A Backlash After San Francisco Labels Sewage Sludge “Organic”
The confusion over San Francisco’s “organic” sludge isn’t unique. The USDA doesn’t regulate which fertilizers can be labeled as organic, allowing anyone to use the term. But Cummins says it’s particularly misleading to apply the “organic” term to treated sewage sludge, which has been known to contain high levels of pollutants such PFOAs and flame retardants. Mother Jones‘ report that President Obama’s “organic” White House vegetable garden was planted on sludge-treated land led to considerable outcry last year. Read more.
Homeopathy: God Save the Queen’s Medicine
Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022) passed away at the impressive age of 96…and her mother, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother (1900-2002) lived until the even more impressive 101 years of age. This longevity may not just be happenstance or even genetics, but it may in part be due to the fact that they had both been active advocates for and users of homeopathic medicine. Read more.

Quenching the Flames of Disease
We’ve written many times about the chronic disease epidemic that is ravaging this country—but did you know that, of the ten leading causes of death in the US, chronic, low-level inflammation contributes to the development of seven of those diseases (heart disease, cancer, respiratory disease, Alzheimer’s diabetes, and nephritis)? Low-grade inflammation isn’t something a conventional doctor will discuss with you, but having it is like a ticking time bomb for your health. Read more.
